Dylan Case Wants Your “Attention”

In Dylan Case’s new musical comedy special Insider, there’s a song called “Attention” that, I think, actually deserves your attention. The song is the first single released from the Los Angeles-based musician and comedian’s Bo Burhnam-inspired special, which he spent the last year shooting.

After watching the music video, it’s obvious that “Attention” was made to be comedic, satirical and rich with commentary about the many ways entertainers compete for our digital affection.

Speaking about the song, Case shares:

This is the first single released from my music and comedy special Insider, I hope you like it, and if you want more, there’s about 35 more minutes of comedy and music in the full special.

Dylan Case

The song starts with Case earnestly singing about how he’s different from other entertainers. As he strums an acoustic guitar, he shares that he’s not looking for money, he just hopes we’ll crack a smile.

Then, as we reach the first chorus, the fun begins. The track turns into a rock song as the acoustic guitar is replaced by a black Hello Kitty Stratocaster, and Case is seen headbanging while wearing a black leather jacket (with no shirt under) and big, blonde ‘80s rocker wig. “Can I please have your attention? / Every like, view and mention / Hit that like and subscribe / I’ll haunt you ‘til the day I die,” he sings before ending the chorus with a nasty laugh.

The next part of the song is where Case’s satirical brilliance really shines. He’s back with his acoustic guitar and is singing about how he won’t use our attention to sell us NFTs, ask us to donate to his Twitch stream, sell us his new tequila brand, or be a predator on OnlyFans. During the NFT, tequila and OnlyFans lines, the screen is filled with examples of other entertainers who do exactly that, who try to sell us NFTs and their tequila brands, or who use OnlyFans to be predators.

For the Twitch line, however, Case does something different. After he sings it, he slams Twitch streamers by showing the donation pages for the Against Malaria Foundation, Cancer Research Institute, American Humane, Direct Relief and Innocence Project and saying:

Hey guys. Thanks so much for the tier one. Don’t forget to keep those subs and donos coming. Yeah, sure, you could donate to, like, literally anything else, make a difference. Or, if you donate enough to me, I can host, like, a dope ass game show for other streamers.

Case then returns to his ‘80s rockstar getup and surprises us with a beautiful piano-led bridge that highlights his falsetto before rocking out to the rest of the song.

Even though Case’s single is meant to be a comedic project, it’s actually a really catchy song with a message that’s worth your attention. Be sure to check out the music video below and give Case your every like, view and mention.
