There’s this certain Christmas song that goes “Silent night. Holy night. All is calm. All is bright…”. A peaceful portrait of this December holiday we all know and love. But then there’s “Slay the bellz” presented by DWP held last December 10 on the streaming platform Twitch, who brought in the banging and clanging. A stunning contrast to the peaceful scenes we all grew up with, in fact to be honest here it’s the direct opposite. Even though that may be case, being able to bask in its 7 hour or so programming still gave off that same warm feeling. Amidst all the shenanigans, greetings, instrument playing, random flying emojis and comments in the chat box it felt like you were home. It did because love was present, the intention to help was there. To provide St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital the funds needed to give kids who suffer from cancer that fighting chance to have a second chance at living.

This noble cause gave this live stream an extra layer of purpose because it transcended entertainment. Every high note, guitar strum, drum beat and harmony from talented guests like Tesseract, Dan Sugarman, The Devil wears Prada, Paolo Gregoletto, Lexii Lynn Frazier, David Frank, Angel Vivaldi, Sydney Sprague, Thonggdelonge, All that remains, The Space Zebra Show crew and The Reality of Yourself felt extra beautiful. Albeit in a screen, the emotions they felt transmitted perfectly through all their musical numbers. Every hour spent with each one was mesmerizing, each one an explosive mini concert on its own.

As talented and established as they were in the streaming and music industry, it felt like jamming with close friends because everyone shared the same purpose. The line between musician and fan blurred momentarily, all there was – the goal of raising funds. It didn’t matter how much each one gave, just as long as everyone did their part because every bit counted. It was one of those rare nights wherein the internet came together regardless of beliefs, race etc. to spread joy and good tidings. A reminder that the world isn’t as bad as some would see it to be. Kindness still exists and can be found in the faces of everyone, yes this includes most especially those who call rock and metal their home. It could also be found in the most unassuming of places, just like in Twitch. You just have to know where to look.

To everyone who participated whether as a streamer/ performer or the audience, thank you very much! All the efforts you’ve put forth made a big difference. You are all heroes in your own right!
