Drew Schueler and Kiki Halliday Reflect on the “Ruins” of Broken Relationships
Drew Schueler has joined Anti Gravity Seeker music artist Kiki Halliday to make a beautifully heavy duet. “Ruins” is centered around facing the uncertainties of a relationship and holding on until there is nothing to hold on to.
As a new pop artist, Schueler has made a name for himself in creating unique yet familiar songs full of vibrant vocals and melodies, electro-pop synth textures, electric guitar and programmed beats. He is breaking into the pop mold along with already established Halliday, who is an independent artist building up a catalogue writing music for television and film. “Ruins” follows up Halliday’s recent successes with sync placements on ‘The Kardashians’, ‘Selling Sunset’, and ‘Queer Eye.’

Through the introduction of vocals by Halliday, listeners are told of how every relationship is unique, and every relationship comes with an abundance of uncertainties. This element, combined with instrumentals composed beautifully to express a solemn tone, expresses the disappointment of lots of work put into a relationship gone to waste. The pain of a broken bond, with nothing left to show from it but how it burned itself into ruins, will never be something that can be easily recovered from. The desperation that also shows from this is heard through Schueler’s verse, how tricking yourself into believing that things can still work out becomes a coping mechanism, an escape from the unfortunate reality. Overall, an echoing melody, two voices mixing together with ease, and a heart wrenching yet meaningful tale are what make “Ruins” a definite highlight of the power that rests in the adult cotemporary genre.
