Emerging dark pop star, Ellise, will unveil her debut full-length album, Chaotic, on May 14 via EMPIRE. The record’s third single “Over Breakfast” is out today. The Bay Area-born artist is attracted to pop music’s ability to access the dark sides of the human experience. Her catalogue includes two Halloween EPs: 2018’s Can You Keep a Secret? and 2019’s Under My Bed. “911” from her debut EP attracted significant attention upon release, and Ellise has only continued to build her following since then, with over 100 million total streams across platforms to date.
“I wrote this song while lying in my bed crying just after getting dumped. I knew the breakup was coming a few days before it did and that’s what the song is about. I didn’t want it to happen but knew it was, and ‘Over Breakfast’ encapsulates exactly how I felt in the moments after the reality of it all hit.”
The melody showcases alluringly vulnerable vocals paired with soft guitar, highlighting the raw lyricism in the track. “Over Breakfast” shares the moments before an utterly broken heart, where the inevitability becomes a desperation to air things out, and the contrast between mourning the loss of the love in the first place.
