On March 3, post-genre punk artist Cy Dune, also known as Seth Olinsky, released his new 18-minute album, Against Face, via Lightning Studios. This album is proclaimed to be a tour de force metapunk blast through 20th century art school punk forms, mashed together into one hyperreal, hypermodern set. This is his first release in almost three years.

Against Face features ten different tracks, including recent singles “Against Face, “Disorientation (Cut Up),” and the album version of “Don’t Waste My Time.” According to Cy Dune, the titular track “represents fun with music’s societal forms more than a hardline ideological perspective, and fits mostly in line with the truly committed aspect of the Cy Dune music again and again to Energy Music and its positive impact on humanity.”

Seth is known to the underground noise folk scene as the co-founder of the experimental group, Akron/Family. Sparked by a turn towards the primal, transcendent energy of rock music and informed by his lifelong love of early blues music, Seth has explored a variety of musical genres, including the blues, 50’s rock n’ roll, and 60s/70s proto punk through his Cy Dune project. Seth’s projects have always had a post-genre approach to music making. His time-blind approach to creating multi-meaning purposefully juxtaposes authentic and pure songwriting sincerity.

The resulting sound in Against Face is cacophonous, unapologetic, and resultantly timeless. The high-octane energy of Cy Dune’s piercing vocals, set against a relentless backdrop collaged by intense percussive beats and screeching guitars, create a cathartic sound perfectly embodying the rebellious “against-the-world” attitude of mid-century music in a totally modern way. Lyrically sparse, but instrumentally verbose, Cy Dune is pioneering a whole new sound with his new album.
