This past week, acclaimed UK singer-songwriter Birdy released a new single titled “Paradise Calling.” The song follows a string of other releases such as “Heartbreaker,” “Raincatchers,” and “Your Arms” earlier this year as a way to promote her upcoming album Portraits. The album is set to be released on Aug. 18 via Atlantic.
“Paradise Calling” takes a stylistic turn in Birdy’s typical piano-driven ballads. Instead, the song consists of vibrant and polished synths and strong vocals. Lyrically, the song is about yearning for love and making it work, no matter the obstacles.
Speaking of stylistic changes, Portraits is considered to be Birdy’s most adventurous album to date as it consists of other energetic tracks and a landscape which she uses to find her true voice.
Since the beginning of her career in the early 2010s, Birdy has found massive success at the age of 26. Her achievements consist of three top 5 albums, platinum and gold certifications, and exceeding over 8 million sales in records. In addition, her music has been featured in Pixar, Amazon, and Netflix production soundtracks. Her streams have reached over 5 billion and her devoted fan base and music enthusiasts alike have helped her sell out concerts in venues such as the famed Sydney Opera House and London’s Eventim Apollo.
