Just ahead of their highly anticipated debut album BUMMER, cleopatrick reveal their most honest and vulnerable song they’ve ever written – “2008.” For the record’s standout ballad, cleopatrick teamed up with their friend Shuyler Nazareth to create an animated video for “2008” which captures and conveys the persistent lyrical energy of the album — a total bummer. Listen/share “2008′ here and watch the video here:
Two friends (guitarist/vocalist Luke Gruntz and drummer Ian Fraser) meet aged four in, “Hicksville, Nowheretown” (real name: Cobourg, Ontario, population 19,000), grow up completely inseparable, form a band and, against numerous obstacles, blossom into a genuine, global underground sensation. There are heroes and villains, highs and lows and, crucially, some of the most poetic plot twists that could seem almost too perfect, were they not completely true.
Since breakthrough track “hometown”, cleopatrick have logged 77 million streams and counting – all from an increasingly dedicated fanbase who’ve found the duo on their own way: no major label, no big budget, just two best pals knuckling down, cementing a unique sonic alchemy and filling a space of honest, empathetic yet undeniably heavy-hitting rock music that they’d been searching for themselves for years.
Offering a vulnerable take to their sound, the single is one of their most raw offerings to date. And upon the brink of releasing their debut album, BUMMER, cleopatrick’s own label, Nowhere Special Recordings (via The Orchard / Thirty Tigers) on June 4 (Pre-Order Here), the duo with their friend, Jig Dubé, show that despite all odds, they could pursue their dreams. “Just three kids with some fuzz pedals and a point to prove,” explains Luke. Between multiple sold out tours in the US, Canada and the UK/EU, appearances at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Reading/Leeds, it sees cleopatrick harness all the magic they’ve been brewing over their two-decade friendship and funnel it into a record that aims to reinvigorate the rock landscape from the ground up.
cleopatrick shows are legendary, and the band cannot wait to get back on the road and bring this new album to life. In support of BUMMER they’ve announced tours in both the US and the UK. All US headline shows will be supported by the band’s New Rock Mafia cohorts: Zig Mentality and Ready the Prince. Stateside, the shows kick off on September 21 in Chicago and conclude on October 29 in Brooklyn. The full US routing is below and tickets are available here).
