Cleveland-born singer/songwriter/producer Cautious Clay collected an all-star cast of contributors to perform on Cheesin’, his latest release. The song, which features artists like Still Woozy, Remi Wolf, Sophie Meiers, Claud, Melanie Faye, and HXNS, was released on Thursday. It was created in an effort to raise funds for MusiCares, a non-profit organization affiliated with The Recording Academy currently leading the way in providing relief to artists affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Clay and friends are also donating 100% of the net profits from the recording to the cause.
According to the official YouTube video, they have already raised $127,409 as of this writing. The song is brilliantly constructed for a stream-focused fundraiser; it’s short at just 2:23, but it’s an earworm that will force you to rewind, restart, and relisten over and over again.

The music video was recorded from the artists’ homes and staged as a sort of spaced-out Zoom meeting. It features intricate jazz-infused guitar riffs, buttery-smooth vocals, a tight, rock-solid drum beat, and even an appearance from Still Woozy’s dog.
Overall, I’d love “Cheesin'” on its own with no further context. However, when considering the altruism of the artists and the amount of donations they’ve already received, it’s hard not to mark this song as one of the standout musical moments of the lockdown so far.
