Jackson Stell, better known as Big Wild drove his Superdream tour into South Austin this past Wednesday at the infamous Emo’s. The show was completely sold out and that seems to be the case at the majority of the venues on this tour. I first saw Jackson when he opened up for Gramatik at a New Year’s Eve party at Terminal 5 in NYC. About 3 minutes into his set I was a fan forever. He has a unique style that is built around his percussive upstart that makes him stand out from other EDM artists. If you have never seen him before most of his stage magic gets released from his electric drum kit and synthesizer. But what was different about this tour was that he brought along other musicians (bassist and guitar player) to help project the newer grooves from his latest album. The new setup turned his solo percussive style EDM performance into pretty much a full-on rock performance. The very second the stage lights ignited so did the crowd. It was non stop screaming and dancing for his whole set. I would also give a lot of credit to Dan Sandford, Jackson’s visual director who always puts on some of the best visual choreography that I have ever seen, the guy is an absolute genius. When going to Big Wild show it is always more than just a concert, it’s an entire experience. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. I really encourage checking this tour out especially if you have never seen him before.
