World-famous singer, rapper, and household name in 2024, Beyoncé has visibly branched off from the styles of her previous albums in an unexpected move with “Texas Hold ‘Em,” her first country song to date alongside “16 Carriages,” which was released just a day before.
The single, which was released February 10, broke Beyoncé’s silence since her iconic album “Renaissance” came out in July 2022. Since its release, Beyoncé has become the first Black woman to top the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
While it is no surprise that Beyoncé’s latest single has been such a hit across the country, it has also become her ninth solo song to hit No. 1. As a woman musical artist who has now topped both the Hot Country Songs chart as well as the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with her past hits, Beyoncé has become part of an elite few who share this accomplishment — following the footsteps of Morgan Wallen and Justin Bieber, to name a couple.
Since the release of “Texas Hold ‘Em” only one month ago, it has amassed over 130 million streams to date, with surely more to come. The other country single that Beyoncé released around the Super Bowl, called “16 Carriages,” has gained over 20 million streams. While this single was not praised as heavily as “Texas,” both songs together represent what is perhaps a new era for Beyoncé as she ventures into unknown territory with confidence and success.
“I’ll be damned if I can’t slow dance with you / Come pour some sugar, give me honey, too / It’s a real-life boogie and a real-life hoedown / Don’t be a bitch, come take it to the floor now”
Beyoncé, “Texas Hold ‘Em”
Artists usually tease a couple of singles ahead of an album release, which is exactly what Queen Bey is doing. Her upcoming album, “Act II,” which is supposed to be a second album to accompany “Renaissance” in a three-album project, is set to release this Friday on major streaming platforms. “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” are featured on the track list, but there remain many songs that have yet to be announced or released.
While the details surrounding Beyoncé’s upcoming album are hazy and obscure, we can be sure of one thing — that whichever vibe she opts to adopt for this project, her essence as one of the best artists of the 20th century will inevitably shine through.
Beyoncé’s album will be available for listening on March 29, and the two featured singles that will be on the album can be streamed indefinitely in the meantime! Stay updated on the evergreen singer’s adventures in the fashion world on her Instagram, and check out her official website here.
