Renowned British singer-songwriter, Ben Howard, is back after two years of absence with new music coming our way. His soothing acoustic tracks brighten the day of anyone who is lured into his signature intimate vocals and lyrics rich in poetry.
“What A Day,” befits our nature amid a world of destruction; offering a comforting presence to calm the wildness and storm in the mind and being. The single was unveiled today, January 27th along with an announcement of Howard’s fourth full-length album, Collections From The Whiteout, following his previous release in 2018, Noonday Dream.
Released paired with a creative new music video, “What A Day,” was shot in an overcast landscape in Bulgaria, and directed by Cloe Bailly. The creative team came together to pull off the crisp visuals and theatrical concept. About the video, Ben Howard commented , “This was a nonsense idea loosely thrown together on the Old English rhyme, ‘back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other’ with a bit of animal hysteria thrown in.”
Ben Howard’s video and track lie in a deeper meaning. What that is, however, is up to our interpretation. Howard’s music pulls his listeners into a state of introspection, remembering the ugliness of the past and leaving us striving for better. His vocals provide the comforting embrace, a softness and quiet against the rugged and dark. His latest release continues along the signature he’s built over the years. It is a solace I’ve yearned to be wrapped into amid the battles this year has wrought. We can only hope for more as he trickles out each track before dropping his next album.
Stream “What A Day,” now, available on all streaming platforms. Collections From The Whiteout will be available on all streaming platforms, via Island Records, on March 26th. Stay tuned for more updates!
