BamoNYC Reflects on Working “Too Hard” in Hard-Hitting Rap

BamoNYC is from Jamaica, Queens, NY. His meaningful lyrics and hard-hitting bars epitomizes what New York rap stands for. On previous single “Tanya”, Bamo demonstrates his ability to be versatile and appealing to the ear. In his music he talks about it all – from coming from a West Indian background (Jamaica and Trinidad) to dealing with hardship.

His biggest influences are Dave East, Meek Mill, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar. Like these artists, BamoNYC’s favorite thing about his music is his unique style. He says,

Every song has a message, visual or not. Dig deep because there’s nothing insubstantial.

Bamo’s latest single, “Too Hard,” is a hard-hitting rap that was inspired by a line that one of his closest friends said to him. Bamo pushed himself to work hard, but didn’t give himself time to relax, and his friend noted it. He was working full-time, going to college full-time, and trying to push forth his music career.

The opening line is “my brother says I work too hard,” which sets the tone for the rest of the song – raw, energetic, and tenacious. An equally pronounced beat carries in the background which, in my opinion, sounds like something out of a movie where the bad guy is being chased. Bamo takes no breaks in his bars, coming in with consistently exhilarating energy. Most of his lyrics are a reflection of the hardships he has to endure as well as the determination he has in life, but he also mixes in some clever lyrical references. The catchy song is a clear testament to his hard work and hopefully, through it, he also realized the need to slow down and take breaks.
