Atla Falls’ Nostalgic Track, “Tried To Forget About It”

It’s easy to lose touch with those who once seemed important in life, such as a childhood friend. Anyone who has that friend from childhood they care about but have lost touch with over time will relate to Atla Falls’ new single, “Tried to Forget About.” The lyrical storytelling combined with the 80s-inspired synth creates an electro-pop track full of bittersweet nostalgia.

Listen to “Tried To Forget About” below:

Lead singer Nathanael recalls his friend who inspired the song. Someone with who he used to go on bike rides and write songs together, but as they grew up, the pair lost touch. Nathaneal describes how,

“I wrote one of my very first songs with her – I have such fond memories of that time of my childhood, and the song transports me back there whenever I play it.”

As the lyrics tell the story of Nathaneal’s memories with his friend, the instrumental further emphasizes the bittersweetness of having these memories while also realizing that those memories will remain in the past. Alongside the synth line inspired by The Weeknd, Atla Falls finds influences through the rhythms of The Preatures, the guitars of Spacey Jane, and the energy of The Wombats.

In addition to all these influences, Nathaneal explains that “Tried To Forget About,”

“…was originally written in a folky style. One night we played it on a TikTok livestream, and our followers instantly connected with the song and asked us to record it. From then on, it was requested on every stream, so we thought we’d better get onto it.”

Matt further details the production process,

“We took the song to our producer Aidan and asked, ‘How on earth can we turn this folk song into an 80s banger?’Aidan weaved his magic, as he always does, and we couldn’t be happier with the final mix.”

Atla Falls is an electro-pop duo comprised of Nathaneal and Matt, based in Brisbane, Australia. They dropped their debut single, “Take Me On Down,” in 2021, followed by a few more songs before releasing their EP, The Fire, later that year. In 2022, the duo released a few more singles (“Trust Me,” “The Space In Between,” and “I’m At A Loss”) and went on a national tour.
