Ariana Fig’s Soft-Rock Single is Our New Favorite “Guilty Pleasure”
Rising indie-pop artist Ariana Fig’s latest release “Guilty Pleasure” is a summer drive in a song. Since its release date of June 3rd, Fig’s single has amassed over 1,300 streams on Spotify and several positive reviews from pop-culture publications. Having been written, co-produced, and performed by Fig, “Guilty Pleasure” presents a different side of the Candian singer’s musicality.
“Guilty Pleasure” is the second song to be released from Fig’s upcoming EP. Fig had worked in collaboration with producer Ben Heffernan, as well as FACTOR Canada and the National Arts Center in Ottawa. Fig hit the nail on the head when describing the single as the perfect “summer song”. With rich, sweet vocals and instrumentals to match, “Guilty Pleasure” is bound to be the song that you associate with warm weather and long car rides with your best friend. While the single is a lovely blend of pop and indie-rock that Fig typically seems drawn to, “Guilty Pleasure” steps outside of the box with a 70s-Esque dreaminess.
Fig’s single is about letting go and moving forward. As we grow and evolve throughout our lives, we sometimes find ourselves unsure of our place in the world. Whether it be a breakup, a big move or just simply getting older, transitional periods are never easy to process. Change is always inevitable, but relinquishing a special part of your life is arguably one of the most difficult things that we have to do in life. In “Guilty Pleasure”, Fig attests to these feelings of conflict and reassures you that you aren’t going through your journey alone. Describing her song as “bittersweet”, Fig makes peace with the “things we have no control over”.
