Americana’s Hidden Gem, Keith Monacchio, Releases “I’ll Protect You”
On March 22nd, New Jersey-based country singer Keith Monacchio released his fifth solo record Under a Nightlight Sky. The ten-track set written and performed by Monacchio explores the themes of family, fatherhood, and getting older -working as a “roadmap” for his child as they continue to age. “I’ll Protect You”, a leading track on Monacchio’s newest record, is a pledge to protect his child from the uncertainty of the current state of the world.
Monacchio’s lyricism is contemplative and tender. He speaks directly to his child, assuring them that he will always be there to guide them through life. In an effort to break the cycle of what he had experienced growing up, Monacchio promises to provide his child with unbending support and protection. “Because I know what it’s like to have no shield” sings Monacchio. “No big hand to hold, no one to tell you to deal -but I will”.

The only thing more comforting than the lyrics of Monacchio’s single is the vocals. His voice is as smooth as whiskey -gently reassuring you that everything is going to be alright. It’s difficult not to feel enveloped by the overwhelming sense of love that permeates “I’ll Protect You”. The beat is steady, with harmonica and drums guiding the track and easing you into placidity. The dreamy, gentle production allows for Monacchio’s commanding presence to shine through -filling you with the same sense of security that he sings about. “I’ll Protect You” succeeds in delivering a fleeting moment of solace and faith in a time where those things are sometimes hard to come by.
With the release of Under a Nightlight Sky, 2022 marks Monacchio’s 30th year as a musician, singer, and songwriter. Beginning his creative journey in the 90s, Monacchio has continued to consecutively create intimate and honest music. You can listen to Under a Nightlight Sky and more of Keith Monnachio on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube.
