ALTA FALLS EVOKES THE BEST OF 1980’S SYNTH WAVE IN LATEST SINGLE THAT DARES LISTENERS TO KEEP GOING NO MATTER WHAT, “I’M AT A LOSS”
Even though they’ve only existed as a group since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alta Falls are fast becoming known for their nostalgic and cohesive electro-pop tracks — especially with their latest song, “I’m At A Loss.” The single is full of dazzling synths and 1980’s styles that Alta Falls has become known for since the start. But what makes this latest track really stand out is just how perfectly it captures the essence of 80’s music not just in sound, but also in the vocals. There’s a very new romantics and new wave style present, epitomized by the poignant lyrics that paint a vivid picture of the hardships faced when someone literally doesn’t know what to do. There’s a repeated mantra of “Keep on breathing” on repeat during the bridge — sung in wonderful harmonies — as well as one of the most effective lyrics in any song of recent memory: “Like I’m seeing rainbows / But I’m stuck in colour-blind.” Indeed, “I’m At A Loss” is just like taking a cruise down a very long, unsteady highway, building momentum until it finally peaks in a wave of cathartic release. That’s not entirely a coincidence, as Alta Falls says they had an unconventional way of figuring out the lyrics for this song:
“The words, ‘I’m at a loss’ came to me out of the blue while Matt was showing me a new song idea he had been playing around with … The phrase intrigued me, so I reached out to our followers on Discord, and asked them what ‘I’m at a loss’ means to them. Their answers formed the inspiration for the lyrics of the song.”
