We have been delivered the event of the summer with Alicia Keys‘ “Keys to the Summer” tour. Beginning near the end of June, we joined the second to last night of the tour in Oakland Arena on August 1st.
This set of dates took stadiums around the United states, are the first of Alicia’s 360-experience for fans to witness. With a main stage in the center of the stadium, mirrored runways ran along to a risen platform and staircase that glowed with the music. A dramatic lighting display also took place throughout the performance, continually ramping up the experience as the audience witnessed songs not many have heard live yet.
Fans packed in the stadium early to witness the seemingly effortless finesse of the songstress, anticipations building as the lights dimmed and the band poured in the instrumental introduction. Alicia Keys walked up a staircase, met with loud cheer, glimmering in an olive, sparkling jumpsuit, matching floor-length trench coat, sunglasses, and hair wrap.
“Loving this energy tonight,” she said as she reached out to the crowd, met with cheer. She started each song with a sentence that felt like she was talking with the girls, then she’d flow into the song effortlessly.
A full-sized grand piano met her upon her entry, and as she sang her first track, it rotated on the platform for all to see. Backing vocals and instrumentals harmonized with each note in her voice. Along with performances of some of her earlier tracks, after the introduction, we heard the greatest hits, including “Girl on Fire” and “No One” near the performance’s conclusion, after an outfit change and a few songs intimately performed and stripped back to the piano.
