Ai Kakihira Releases “ADA”

On November 16th, Tokyo based DIY singer-songwriter Ai Kakihira released her new single “ADA.” In Kakihira’s own words, “‘ADA’ is experimental music that combines Minneapolis funk with a post-punk vibe.” This is a perfect description of the track, which makes sense because the artist is the one who gave it.

“ADA” combines electronic and acoustic elements – another appearance of subdued saxophone – to create a sinister sound. It also has a sense of light within it, meaning it could serve as the perfect soundtrack for a character’s introduction in any form of media. Whether that character is a hero or villain is immaterial. Morality is not as black and white as older forms of media would make us believe, and I appreciate the gray area where “ADA” lies.

Though that might just be me projecting onto the track. In terms of what the track is: it’s an electronic banger, featuring cool vocals, subdued saxophone, and a predominant bass synthesizer that drives the entire song. Everything about the track works in perfect harmony, and it’s an absolute banger. I’ve had it on repeat for a while, and I’m sure you will, too.

Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
