“abcdefu” SINGER GAYLE DEBUTS HERALDING NEW SINGLE “indieedgycool”

From the bowels of a social media overdose comes rising popstar GAYLE’s latest single “indieedgycool.” Painfully tapped into the insecure underbelly of contemporary youth––saturated in cringe culture––the “abcdefu” singer wages a satirical protestation against a specific brand of the pseudo-unique among her; you know, the “indie, edgy, cool kid” type.

The tongue-in-cheek new single was released alongside an equally sardonic, ill-contented music video that sees GAYLE acting as the subject of her own ridicule. Poised apathetically in a prototypical “I do illegal stuff in my parents’ basement” setting, GAYLE is surrounded by so-called ‘basic-types’ who hang desperately onto her masking cool-girl facade. “I think I’m original and everybody’s copying me,” she sings passively, a cigarette dangling (the wrong way) from her pouting mouth.

“Indieedgycool” heralds the arrival of GAYLE’s upcoming EP “a study of the human experience volume two” out October 7 via Atlantic Records and Arthouse Records. If the release is to resemble a thesis as its academia-imbued title suggests, GAYLE is certainly a reputable field guide when it comes to traversing the contemporary arena of online happenings.

Since her single “abcdefu” went viral on the likes of TikTok, GAYLE has earned an increasing list of honors and accolades in recent months, including a Billboard Music Award nod for “Best Viral Song,” featured placement on Billboard’s influential “21 Under 21” list, and most recently, Variety‘s 2022 “Power of Young Hollywood” Impact List.

GAYLE’s headlining North American run, the “avoiding college tour,” gets underway October 8––a day after her EP release. It continues an extensive international live schedule that has already seen GAYLE traveling on her own sold-out headline program, as well as a two-night stand alongside My Chemical Romance in Dublin, Ireland and tours supporting Tate McRae and AJR.
