Get the weekend started and ignite your auditory senses with this week’s eclectic assortment for New Music Friday. Explore an array of tastes and styles, spanning from indie rock to chill electronica, ensuring there’s something for every musical palate.

1. The Mysterines: “Sink Ya Teeth”

UK-based band The Mysterines returns with an edgy flair for “Sink Ya Teeth.” It has charming, garage-band energy, invoking a spirit of rebellion. Growling guitars propel the song forward as the lead singer passionately pleads, “I tried so hard, but you make me bored / Sink your teeth in deeper.”

2. Porches: “Rag”

New York-based Porches serve up indie sleaze with wailing yet smooth vocals in “Rag.” The music video embraces a youthful and carefree vibe, featuring the band covered in mud, and surrounded by miscellaneous playground toys. It complements the seemingly nonsensical yet bold lyrics that say “World’s fucking sick of us / Bag in the hand / Dog’s biting extra nice.”

3. The Dip: “Love Direction”

Seattle-based band The Dip‘s new release, “Love Direction,” is sure to captivate listeners with its smooth blend of jazz and R&B. It features velvety, deep vocals and fluttering, soulful brass and wind instruments. It is so serenely beautiful, almost distracting from the song’s theme of feeling lost and uncertain in a relationship.

4. Jaolin: “Bikini”

Jaolin, a Finnish artist raised in Mexico, confidently shares her identity with “Bikini.” With quirky vocal effects reminiscent of Rosalía, she affirms that no matter her wealth or access to endless clothing options, the bikini stays on. The song blends her cultural influences into a cohesive party bop.

5. Mimi Webb: “Mistake”

UK-based singer-songwriter Mimi Webb enchants listeners with her new progressive jungle track, “Mistake.” It satisfyingly fills the room with crisp percussion and raspy, resonating vocal layers. She is tempted by a toxic relationship, singing “All the lights they blind reality / and all I see is your arms surrounding me.”
