Lil Uzi Vert Releases Video For “Just Wanna Rock”

On November 18th, “Grammy-nominated artist Lil Uzi Vert released the visual for “Just Wanna Rock.” Directed by Gibson Hazard through House of Hazard, the video follows Uzi, dancers, and a massive crowd raging to the song. In one of the first shots, we see Uzi’s car come down from another planet before we are transported to a warehouse party. As the party transitions into the streets of New York, a massive crowd rushes towards the car to catch a glimpse of Uzi. NYPD shows up to force the crowd to disperse, and Uzi’s car flies back up into space. While this might sound like a fairly simplistic concept, the execution is anything but.

Still from “Just Wanna Rock” Video

Gibson Hazard has done a masterful job of weaving shots together and getting the best performances from all the dancers, including Uzi themself. The aerial shots of the crowd around the car are immaculate, and the “found footage” quality of the scenes with NYPD gives them a sense of realism. Probably because they are real, and this actually happened.

Yes, as wild as it seems, the events of the end of this music video (with the exception of flying cars and Lil Uzi Vert living in space) were captured by attendees and shared to personal IG Stories and TikToks, eventually finding their way into Gibson Hazard’s final cut of the music video. The song itself is the perfect catalyst for a flash mob like this to go crazy. The beat hits hard and heavy, and Uzi keeps their distance vocally. There is a lot of rest in the vocal flow, allowing the sense of urgency they’re trying to convey to come through. Uzi just wants to rock, and they want you to rock with them.

Check out the music video for “Just Wanna Rock” below, and let us know what you think! It seems that “found footage” is starting to come back en vogue, and we can’t wait to see which artists use it to their benefit. Lil Uzi Vert and Gibson Hazard did a fantastic job here. Who will do it next?

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
