ASSORTED ORCHIDS UNVEIL POIGNANT AND THOUGHTFUL SINGLE IN THE FORM OF FOLKSY TRACK “THE 4TH OF JULY”
Massachusetts native T.McWilliams’s music project Assorted Orchids has released one of the most subtly thoughtful tracks of late, the form of the folk-rock track, “The 4th of July.” Much like the song’s implication of freedom, it and Assorted Orchids sprang up from McWilliam’s travels and residencies across the world — always feeling like he belonged everywhere yet nowhere. As such, the song has a slightly melancholic yet hopefully tint to it in the vein of Nick Drake or The Decembrists, having been written in the quoter moments of returning back to his home state. It’s lyrically direct and never once wavers in its message, and as McWilliams says about the song’s meaning for himself:
“‘The 4th of July’ is about being a stranger on native soil, romanticizing escape but acutely aware that doing so won’t solve anything. In the world of this song, freedom is a double edged sword.”
