Soft low-end piano melodies and flavors sprinkled in on ride cymbal ease the listener into Matthew Kilby’s latest single “Sunday.” The opening lyrics “Rain on the roof, your head is in mine” set the comfy stage for the perfect rainy Sunday song. Kilby’s gentle voice serenades his listeners soothingly, hopefully allowing them a moment to take a deep breath and rest.
His intentions for the song: “This song is about cuddling and listening to rain on a Sunday, in full denial of all the responsibilities of the next week. Hope it makes you feel happy and a little sleepy.”
It’s such a sweet tune with lots of smooth crescendos and decrescendos that allow the mind to wander a bit. With tasteful orchestration including strings and a typical dream pop soundscape, “Sunday” is a song anyone can enjoy.
Matthew Kilby is better known by the people close to him as a wonderful AP Music teacher and Steel Drums Percussion instructor in South Caroline, but he’s not too shabby as a songwriter either!
