GRAMMY award-winning artist, Daya (“Grace” in Hindi), has quickly risen in the pop music scene as an artist to watch. With her clear, angelic vocals, her work is emotion-evoking and provokes listeners into singing along with dance.

Growing up in Pittsburgh with a heavy influence in music, she started at age three by playing piano, and from there, she picked up singing at age eleven and knew that music was in the fibers of her being. Ten years later, she is a successful musician pursuing her biggest dreams. This Friday, after dropping a new single, “Montana,” and announcing her next EP, Daya took the livestream stage to perform some of her greatest hits.

Her heavy influence of Amy Winehouse is evident in her passionate and raw vocals, and she met with fans onscreen on a level unlike many. In the interview following the performance, she admitted her longing to be deeply authentic with her fans so they could connect with her on a far more tangible level.

Her performance was unique in this: in the way she gazed into the camera as if she were looking you straight in the eyes, in her contagious presence that created a deep longing for the live, in person scene again… Daya danced along the checkered floor in blue and purple lighting as the camera effects switched from a filmy grain to the crisp focal lengths.

Daya’s new EP will be released just in time for Pride month. As an advocate for equal rights, she comments:

I want to do whatever I can to normalize queer relationships and queer stories, and help lesser-known queer artists get more visibility in the mainstream. When I came out I was lucky enough to have really supportive family and friends around me, and now I want to help move the needle for anyone who maybe doesn’t have it as easy as I did.

Stream the new single, “Montana,” available on all streaming platforms. Tickets are available to watch the stream until Friday, March 7th, and are available for purchase here.
