Multi-disciplinary Canadian recording artist KICCC takes consumerism and hype culture head-on with his single “MRKMI“, featuring Lodia Mija and Kid Filthy. This electro-pop and rap track and its accompanying music video challenge the pay-to-play style culture with a modern pop-art feel that has an old school hip-hop twist. MRKMI is a quirky tune with a funky middle section that hits just right.
The song has several elements that make it stand out. In addition to KICCC‘s robo-techno chorus melodies, Lodia Mija and Kid Filthy add nuances of a “cool” monotone female vocals and flavorful, bouncy rap verses, demonstrating how “KICCC uses experimental pop music as a vehicle to reflect upon his relation to the world and people around him.”
“MRKMI” is the first single since KICCC‘s debut project, The Water Knows, was released in 2020. Several soundscapes can be heard this album; stripped down vocals and instrumental tracks, samples of waves crashing, up-tempo house beats, vibey pop songs with hip-hop and r&b elements, vulnerable ballads, and chill indie tracks, truly keeping its listeners on their toes.
