New York City’s ’s own Brasstracks have carved out a unique lane in the ever-crowded music scene, with a signature brand of horn-infused R&B/soul with a heavy hip-hop influence. Having wrapped up their For Those Who Know EP series in November, Brasstracks are back with a brand new project, releasing the Before We Go EP. Prefaced by singles, Vibrant feat. PellSnowdaze feat. Charles Gaines and I’m Alright feat. R.Lum.R, the full 7-track EP is out today in full across all streaming platforms.

The name of the project – Before We Go – alludes to this being the last project that Ivan and Conor will release before they barricade themselves away recording their debut album. The EP cements Brasstracks status as one of the most innovative bands that’s emerged from the hip-hop/R&B scene in recent years. Packed with live horns and percussion, Brasstracks continue to prove the importance of live instrumentation in hip-hop/R&B, defining a distinct sound in a genre saturated with MIDI synths and drum machines.

Brasstracks collaborated with an eclectic assortment of artists on Before We Go, including Nashville-based R&B rising star R.Lum.R on I’m Alright, Australian popstar Grace on Follows, New Orleans rapper Pell on Vibrant, promising soul crooner Anthony Flammia on Everything I Got and Soundcloud standout Charles Gaines on Snowdaze. The diverse group of collaborators demonstrates Brasstracks ability to make music with a wide-ranging number of artist across a spectrum of genres – tapping into tinges of hip-hop, R&B, soul and pop – resulting in their most ambitious yet cohesive project to date.

Brasstracks shared some words about the new EP and their plans for the coming months:

“We’re BEYOND excited to share this music with you, but we realized you may not know what this project is all about, or the story behind some of the songs. Most people have so far thought that “Before We Go” is some sort of sign of our hiatus or of us splitting up as a band. Exactly what we wanted to you to believe, but it’s certainly the opposite of what’s going on. Truthfully, we just needed to get these songs to everyone, “Before We Go” start and finish an album. Our journey has only begun. It’s going to take some time, and we promise not to starve you guys with music – but that’s the root of it.

For Those Who Know was for our fans who stuck with us through an awkward transition from electronic and bombastic to more live and nuanced, from Soundcloud to Spotify and Apple, etc. Before We Go is a declaration for not just our fans, but for everyone, that we are here to stay, and the next project is going to be even bigger.”

Ivan and Conor broke down Before We Go Track-by-Track on Consequence of Sound.

Brasstracks are currently in the midst of a 26-date headlining tour around North America – The Vibrant Tour – with support from Kemba and Pell. The tour includes sold-out shows at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel and LA’s El Rey Theatre and concludes on March 9th in Denver.
