Lauren Bulka over at Universal Music Group’s 1824 created specialty coffee sleeves with The Cookery, a Christian non-profit cafe right next to Belmont University. The sleeves are themed after Josh Turner for his new album and will be used on/after December 1st. All proceeds go back towards their cause to aid the homeless population of Nashville, especially during these hard winter times.

The Cookery is a nonprofit restaurant, cafe, caterer, and event space that trains formerly homeless men in the Culinary Arts to prepare them for employment in Nashville’s food industry.

I briefly spoke with Bruce, who walked me through The Cookery’s program aimed to help homeless people regain their independence. When they join the program, it is a half-to-full year long curriculum which teaches them culinary skills. “The first few weeks we have them take certain tests to get a gauge of where they are at. At the conclusion of the program, prior to their graduation, they’ll take the managers exam. With this documentation these individuals can basically walk into any restaurant and have a fair shot at landing a job.” He continued, “While they’re here, they are housed with their own bed. They’re fed, clothed, receive access to doctors/medical treatment, as well as an aid-at-Walmart card – to help them get things they need that weren’t donated.”

In addition to providing delicious beverages and snacks, they have a giving tree in the middle of the main seating space. On the giving tree, there are present tags with items listed that they are seeking donations for. If you would like to stop by to treat yourself, be sure to visit the giving tree to see how you could treat another this holiday season! All donations are due by December 21st.
