“Black Opium” recounts the relationship that Zxena experienced with her ex-boyfriend. Produced and co-written by Andrø Pop, the song references Yves Saint Laurent‘s seductively intoxicating women’s fragrance, Black Opium. An enchanting sultry pop production floats behind the poignant lyrics about a toxic, narcissistic man, who continuously gaslights his lover. The catchy backing track is filled with light embellishments and bouncy synths, bringing a certain air of buoyancy to the otherwise dark mood of the lyrics.
