This November, Zoe Wees will share her debut album, Therapy. Until then, Wees gave us the deep-cut single “Lightning.” She dropped the track earlier this month, filled with enough fire to tide us over. Known for her stage presence, charisma, and one of a kind voice, Therapy is sure to be a refreshing release.
“Lightning” moves gently into its first beats, strumming on Wees’ heartstrings and coaxing out her syrupy vocals. The piano trickles along beside the weight of her lyrics, streamlining into the addition of the drums as the song begins to pick up. Then, the chorus’ beat drop strikes exactly as Wees claims she will: electrified, like lightning. After the stormy first verse, Wees can truly let loose, bellowing poetics over a fiery beat. Flighty, high-register vocals accompany Wees’ deep tone in the second verse, a contrast that deepens the impact of Zoe’s pipes. The bridge is as catchy as the chorus, where Wees floats in a deep groove. Zoe Wees is one of a kind for the pulse and passion of her music, which culminates here in an impeccably produced track.
Wees recently stunned the crowd at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Illinois. She toured over the past few months, bringing her killer style and songs all summer long. Wees is a highly collaborative artist, constantly making musical connections and getting some magical productions out of teamwork. Recently, she joined German McDonalds to release a cover, “You Are So Beautiful,” by Joe Cocker. Earlier this year, she also released the dynamic, deep track “Don’t Give Up,” complete with two remixes. Wherever she goes, Zoe Wees is magnetic, commanding the room with her energy and performance.
