Working With Influences Part Two: CHVRCHES And Robert Smith Release “How Not To Drown (Robert Smith Remix)”

CHVRCHES, fresh off the announcement that their new album, Screen Violence, is going to be released on August 27th, have released the Robert Smith – yes, that Robert Smith – remix of “How Not To Drown,” the lead single off of Screen Violence that features Robert Smith. Once again: that Robert Smith.

“How Not To Drown” is a great song about literally writing a book about staying conscious as you drown. Sonically, it is inherently a CHVRCHES song, and it is outstanding. This remix, however, creates a phenomenal alternative version. It keeps the integrity of the original, but it expands it not only in terms of time, but also in terms of sound. Robert Smith takes the sounds of The Cure and fuses them with the sounds of CHVRCHES to create one of the best remixes to come out this year.

Something that needs to be mentioned about this song and Screen Violence is that it was recorded “almost entirely remotely between Los Angeles and Glasgow.” CHVRCHES worked around the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic to create this album, and it should be a phenomenal one, especially if “How Not To Drown” is any indication.

Let us know what you think about CHVRCHES, Robert Smith, and “How Not To Drown (Robert Smith Remix)” in the comments, and be sure to check out Screen Violence on August 27th!

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
