Waxahatchee Shares New Single, “Tomorrow”

Sometime in December, singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield put out a new single for her project, Waxahatchee. “Tomorrow” serves as not only the first single released by Waxahatchee since 2020’s incredible Saint Cloud; it also is the lead single from Crutchfield’s work on the soundtrack for the Apple TV+ show, El Deafo. El Deafo, based on Cece Bell’s book of the same name, follows Cece – the protagonist, not the author (though the story is loosely autobiographical) – as she navigates school and meeting new people through the help of her alter ego, El Deafo, after losing her hearing.

Of the soundtrack, Katie Crutchfield has said “I’m so happy to finally announce an amazing project I had the honor of being a part of. Last year I wrote some original music for a new show on Apple TV+ called El Deafo, based on the book of the same name by a true hero, Cece Bell. Myself along with Rob Barbato spent a few months arranging and recording these tunes and it was an amazing experience all around.” If “Tomorrow” is any indication, the soundtrack for this show will be absolutely phenomenal.

“Tomorrow” is a wholesome song about following your own path and letting the right people come into your life at the right times. It’s also about staying true to your own convictions, but it does ask: if someone is going to love who you’re becoming, why can’t they love who you currently are? If the end goal is a loving relationship, shouldn’t that be predicated on an understanding that people are constantly changing and who you fall in love with won’t necessarily be the same person in a year?

Of course, that might be reaching too much, but Waxahatchee has always had some profound observations on life within simple moments, so I choose to believe that it’s what Katie Crutchfield wanted me to take away from it. Check out “Tomorrow” below, and be sure to also listen to Saint Cloud as well! As always, let us know what you think!

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
