Recently, a special track made it my way that has stayed in my rotation. Made up by three childhood friends, .wavrunner is a band that draws inspiration from hip-hop, rock and pop. Fusing together elements from popular genres creates a feel good melody that’s catchy enough to stay on your mind for the next couple hours following listening. With JJ as the group’s producer, Jack, aka “Jungle Jack” on vocals, and Griff as a co-vocalist, there’s a bit of a Brockhampton feel to the group’s sound which leaves us wanting more.
With .wavrunner, you’re getting three guys who just want to hangout, party, perform, and revel in all the spoils that come with it. Instead of an obsession with darkness, depression and violence, .wavrunner plans to make music fun again. Their lyrics focus on good times and playful pop culture references from Lord of the Rings’ characters to classic rocker Tom Petty.
The original “uh huh, i like it” demo landed .wavrunner a management deal with The Elevation Group – who in turn sent their work to producer Paul Meany. Meany, former front man for indie band Mutemath, is one of the most “in demand” producers today, working with Twenty One Pilots, Walk the Moon, LANY and others. Meany immediately agreed to produce “uh huh, i like it.” Also on board the .wavrunner train is Grammy-nominated Joe Grasso (“Old Town Road”/Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, “July”/Noah Cyrus, “Pop Out Again”/Polo G), who mixed the track.
