Watch Girlhood Unfold in Blondshell’s “Salad” Music Video
Shot mystically in the woods and water, Blondshell has released the music video for “Salad,” co-starring Rana Ghiassi and Ruby Cruz. Nick Hardwood directed the video, which is inspired by Justine Kurland’s Girl Pictures. At the Zorthian Ranch in Altadena, California, the trio of women tell a story of self-sufficiency in a forest they call home. They wake in an encampment, trouncing through the forest and a mass of intimate exchanges and interactions. We see deep connections and the messy but picturesque landscape of being a woman, colored by the natural beauty of the space around them.
“For the video we were really inspired by images of girlhood and deep friendship. We kept coming back to Justine Kurland’s Girl Pictures. I wanted the video to show the love that’s in the song, not just the anger. Nick created a really beautiful video and a comfortable place for all of us to play around with images of chosen family and community.”

Blondshell in “Salad”
Blondshell wakes the other two up at the start of the video, and we’re brought through french-braiding, river showers, and foamy toothbrushes. The closeness between the women’s lives and the audience is key to bringing the song to life. They play games together, establishing a sense of family and trust, and then green illuminates the screen around them as they search for ingredients in the forest. As Blondshell sneaks the concoction into a mystery figure’s coffee, both a sinister and exciting tone takes over the video. It ends with them returning to their tent, climbing in after dusk and huddling together for the night, satisfied by some sort of justice.

Coming off of her debut album release, Blondshell, on April 7th, Blondshell is excited to announce that she will be embarking on her first headline tour in North America on July 7th with sold out shows in Chicago, Toronto, New York City and more. Brooklyn’s Hello Mary will be opening for most of the tour, and tickets are now on sale. She then will be opening for one of her musical heroes, Liz Phair, in the fall. This exciting trajectory is well deserved, as Blondshell has made a powerhouse artist of herself in recent years. Blondshell looks trauma in the eyes, tears it from its roots and claws toward relief. She considers the album a manifestation of herself as a collection of songs, a truly genuine repertoire that will make an emotional and fabulous live show.
