Until the Ribbon Breaks (UTRB) dropped their latest track, “Nature Mother,” featuring Emoni Wilkins, on December 6th, as a follow-up to their smashing summer release, “Red Skies.” The British musical duo, consisting of Pete Lawrie-Winfield and Elliot Wall, was established in 2012 in Cardiff, Wales. Initially conceived as Lawrie-Winfield’s solo endeavor, the band uniquely amalgamates many genres into something impossible to label but incredible to experience.

The new single is beautiful, vulnerable, tender, mystical. . . Like the Earth, it is comprised of many layers. The lyrics encapsulate a profound sentiment about humanity’s interconnectedness with nature.

If there was a single lyric that encompassed the whole feeling that I have – and where I’ve been emotionally and why I even made this record – it’s that chorus. It specifically talks about our role in nature and our role to each other: “Wild is the wind. Rage is the sea. If it’s in me, it’s in me, it’s our nature mother.”

Emoni Wilkins contributes powerful, soulful vocals reminiscent of a spirited church hymn. With an impressive vocal range and vibrant performance, Wilkins adds a spiritually healing dimension to the track. The accompanying music video portrays a dancer contorting in expressions of grief and anguish, often intertwining with Lawrie-Winfield. This visual narrative aligns with the song’s inspiration, serving as a symbolic call to accept the nature of living, both figuratively and literally, embracing the Nature Mother (who seems to be portrayed by Wilkins, as she wears a crown of flowers and is clad in numinous white) while understanding human suffering.

Lawrie-Winfield, reflecting on the track, proposes a novel perspective on anxiety and depression. Rather than viewing them as ailments to be cured, he suggests they are inherent aspects of human nature, paralleling the complexities found in the natural world. The dancer in the video embodies this notion, serving as a tangible representation of Lawrie-Winfield’s struggles.

Following a self-imposed hiatus and six years of sobriety, Lawrie-Winfield reveals exciting prospects for fans. A third full-length album is officially in the works, slated for release via VERO Music. This period of rejuvenation promises a fresh chapter in the artist’s journey, blending resilience, artistic exploration, and a continued connection to the profound themes that define Until the Ribbon Breaks’ distinctive musicality and narrative.

The single is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.
