Top Singles This Week: Indie Faves
Indie is such a fun genre because it can mean pretty much anything. From pop music to hard rock, the indie genre is definitely one of my favorites. This week, we picked out our favorite new releases from some of the best indie artists of the moment. Keep reading to find out our picks!
“Loser at Best” by Wallice
If indie rock is your style, you’re gonna love Wallice’s new single, “Loser at Best”. The new track is an homage to 90’s pop-punk with Wallice’s modern spin on the genre. Altering between soft vocals with minimal instrumental and head-banging rock breakdowns, the new song is sure to be a hit. The indie-pop artist is fresh off her tour dates in Australia supporting The 1975 and will be headlining her own UK/North American tour this summer. “Loser at Best” is the second single off Wallice’s upcoming EP, Mr. Big Shot, out June 23. Make sure to grab tickets to see Wallice on her headlining tour this summer!
“Should I” by Sir Chloe
On “Should I”, Sir Chloe perfectly mixes heavy guitars of the punk genre and a light guitar solo to create the ultimate nostalgic indie-rock song. The lead single off I Am The Dog, “Should I” lets Sir Chloe’s powerhouse vocals shine. The new album is out now, and Sir Chloe will be heading on their “I Am The Tour” North American and European headlining tour this summer. The artist will also be supporting Phoenix and Beck on their co-headlining tour alongside Weyes Blood, Jenny Lewis, and Japanese Breakfast. Get tickets to see Sir Chloe here, and check out the new album, I Am The Dog!
“LA (feat. SK8)” by Olive Amun
Australian rising star Olive Amun has teamed up with SK8 on his new single, “LA”. Combining a killer guitar riff with a classic indie-pop beat, Amun has created the song of the summer with “LA”. This song instantly makes me want to dance around my room like no one is watching. The half-Greek and half-Maori artist has claimed Mac Miller, Tyler, the Creator, and Mac Demarco as his inspirations, and all three definitely shine through in their own ways in the new single. Connect with Olive Amun on his Instagram account, and make sure to look out for new releases. “LA” only proves that Olive Amun is absolutely an artist to watch.
“2009 TOYOTA” by Thomas Headon
Thomas Headon’s brand new single “2009 TOYOTA” is the perfect indie-pop track for the summer. The new single follows recent releases “i loved a boy” and “Georgia”, all three with different vibes to show the range Headon has. The British-born Australian singer gained his following on TikTok, leading to a collaboration with Lizzy McAlpine on the 2021 song “Bored”. The new single comes after the artist recently drove around the streets of London to promote “2009 TOYOTA”, blasting the new track from the car. The new indie-pop track is sure to blow up this summer, so keep an eye on Thomas Headon for more new releases!
“California Dream Girl” by The Hellp
If you prefer a more electro-pop vibe, The Hellp’s new single “California Dream Girl” will be your song of the summer. The new track marks the indie-electronic duo’s first release under Atlantic Records, making them one of the newest rising stars in the genre. The Hellp is made up of Noah Dillon and Chandler Ransom Lucy, originally meeting at a photoshoot when Chandler was a model and Noah was the photographer. The duo’s new song is reminiscent of the early 2000s, the perfect mix between electro-pop production and killer vocals. Check out The Hellp’s Instagram account to keep up with the rising duo!
