The Paper Kites Making a Comeback with Single, “The Sweet Sound of You”

On Feb. 24, the Australian indie-folk band, The Paper Kites returned with the release of their newest single, “The Sweet Sound of You” via Nettwerk in anticipation of their upcoming Roadhouse project.

Following their fifth studio album, Roses (2021), “The Sweet Sound of You” is the first to come in preparation for their next album. Sam Bentley, the lead singer of The Paper Kites, sings about the changes we face throughout life and how we can appreciate the moments in between seasons. To complement this message, Christina Lacy accompanies Bentley on the piano with beautiful melodies.

The Paper Kites create a smooth track that eases listeners into the message. With its slow and steady beat, the lyrics that Bentley sings paints vivid imagery for listeners. Building upon the vocals of Bentley and instrumentals of Lacy, the band decided to recruit three musicians: Matt Dixon, Hannah Cameron, Chris Panousakis. This imagery and combination of creative minds adds to the experience of the track and the story it tells.

“But when I think it’s gone / I still hear the sweet sound of you / Echoes through the home / I still hear the sweet sound of you”

Lyrics from “The Sweet Sound of You”

In July 2022, The Paper Kites graced the small Victorian town, Campbells Creek with an unannounced performance during a month-long residency while working on their sixth studio album. “The Sweet Sound of You” is the first of many to come from their Roadhouse project. On the anticipation for this upcoming project, Bentley shares:

“We had talked about this for years. We were drawn to the idea of holding up in town somewhere and playing the evenings as a house band.”
