The Jonas Brothers Drop “Wings” as First Single of Upcoming Album

With high-anticipation and years of die-hard fans throughout their career, the Jonas Brothers have finally released the first single of their new album, The Album, coming May 12. “Wings” is out now via Republic Records along with its music video, which has already reached 4 million views in a few short weeks.

The song successfully meets the expectations of awaiting fans, with an upbeat rhythm and a positively reliable theme of adoration that audiences have come to love about the heartthrob boy-band. With the song primarily accompanied by piano and drums, the vocals compliment the melody seamlessly through simplistic and trademark tones.

As you may be able to tell from the lyrics, “Wings” is about finding meaning through a person, place, or thing – as the Jonas Brothers seem to be abstract and unspecific about what exactly is giving them this newfound purpose. Despite this, we might be able to assume it’s a woman based on their history and by their lyrics saying, “when you give me love.”

“You are the one, the sun, the light of day, yeah / You are the wings I need to fly away / When you give me love, when you give me love, I / Feel it, I feel it, it feels like I ran through the ceilin’, the ceilin’, the ceilin’ / No, my life, it never had a meanin’, a meanin’, a meanin’ / You gave me a reason, you got me believin’, you’re makin’ me say”

The music video enhances the single to match the fun and energetic energy “Wings” brings, by featuring Haley Lu Richardson dancing with three girlfriends and obsessing over the Jonas Brothers. What else is a girl to do, than to get life-size cardboard cutouts of the Jonas Brothers?

When asked about the new single, the Jonas Brothers said:

“‘Wings’ is the perfect start to this new chapter for us. Working with Jon [Bellion] pushed us to explore our artistry in a way we never have before. The song is a great first taste of that creative exploration and what’s to come with The Album.”

Both the song and the upcoming album is executive produced by singer, songwriter, and producer Jon Bellion, who also commented on the Jonas Brothers’ new music to say, “The brothers have a God given ability and talent that deserves this level of record making at this point, and I just wanted to honor how special they are with this music.”
