Tall Blonde’s Newest Single, “Try,” Is Has A Soft Rock Vibe With An Experimental Twist
It can be challenging to find a song with a good balance of upbeat tempos while maintaining an overall chill atmosphere. Bands such as Coldplay have toed this line perfectly, but now there’s a new song to add to the soft rock playlist: Tall Blonde’s latest single, “Try,” featuring Suncat.

“Try” is a mixture of indie rock and indie pop. The song starts with a cool bass guitar riff and a pulsing drum beat while infusing pop elements, such as the synth in the climax of the chorus. This is further illustrated in the clear tone of Tall Blonde’s voice versus the more raspy sound of Suncat’s vocals to create a dynamic duet. “Try” is reminiscent of tracks from bands such as the Arctic Monkeys (think of “Do I Wanna Know” mixed with the soundscape of their recent single, “Body Paint”).
Tall Blonde started his musical career in 2017 with the release of his debut single, “I Will Light Up The Sea,” followed by “Under Attack” and his debut EP, Wonderful (2018). Between 2018 and 2022, Tall Blonde released several more singles, including “West Hollywood” and “Bluebird.” Earlier this year, he dropped his debut album, Ponderosa, which includes “Daisies” and “Lucky Charm.” The title track is reminiscent of Coldplay’s earlier work, perfect for anyone who is a fan of that more laid-back rock sound.
In terms of talking about his musical inspiration, Tall Blonde says,
“When I look at the world, I kind of do not want to be involved. I try to be more impulsive than the world allows. More organism and less algorithm. It sometimes feels like I’m floating around like a ghost trying to recognize myself.”
“Try” is the first single Tall Blonde has put out since Ponderosa, and it doesn’t look like he is slowing down anytime soon.
