Spoon has released their cover of The Beatles’ 1967 track “Christmas Time (Is Here Again).” It was recorded for the Spotify Singles: Holiday Edition 2021. This collection officially marks the fifth year of Spotify Singles: Holiday. Ot features a wide array of both originals and covers, of artists from countless number of genres, with the hope of connecting with friends and family even from far while listening to these tracks.

The Spoon cover version of “Christmas Time (Is Here Again) was recorded at Jim Eno’s Public HiFi studio which is in Austin. The frontman, Britt Daniel shares that, “Recording ‘Christmas Time (Is Here Again)’ was a group effort that pulled us away from rehearsals and quickly sent us down a turbulent path of what you might call the Christmas spirit. And it’s our song with the most band members doing vocals ever – pretty sure I’m counting four. THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS IS OVER.” A notable difference between the cover version and the original track is that the guitar is heavier in Spoon’s version while in The Beatles’ it has a soft guitar tune.

Spoon had already shared covers of two Tom Petty classics earlier this year. It was shared on digital streaming platforms for the first time. Initially they covered “Breakdown” the 1976 song for the 70th Birthday Bash of the late rock star’s concert last year. The first single to be taken is the original track from the self-titled debut album Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers’. Since then it has become a beloved hit of the holidays and it has now been brought to life again with the special cover by Spoon. It was released as part of Spotify Singles’ Holiday Edition, alongside several other covers from many talented artists.
