Spacey Jane Release Acoustic Live Performance of “It’s Been a Long Day”

Australian indie rock group Spacey Jane released a live performance of their song, “It’s Been a Long Day” on Nov.16. The performance takes place at The Forum in Melbourne, and sees the band put an acoustic spin on the song. The band swaps out the drums and electronic instruments and deliver a rendition with only vocals and two acoustic guitars.

Spacey Jane hails from Perth, a city that has been the birthplace for other great Australian musical arts such as Tame Impala and Pond. Following their formation in 2016, the band played local live shows for a good year, before releasing their debut EP titled No Way to Treat an Animal in 2017. 2020 marked their first album, Sunlight. Spacey Jane would go on to follow this up with a second studio album released earlier this year, titled Here Comes Everybody

The live rendition of “It’s Been a Long Day” sees us with just two of Spacey Jane’s members (Caleb Harper and Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu), sitting on stools at a seemingly empty Forum basked in the sunlight rays. There are no live performance tricks or magic here, it’s just a simple set of two men playing the guitar and singing.

“It’s Been a Long Day” is a song that everyone can relate to. We have all had those days where seemingly everything goes wrong, and worse, it never seems to end. Spacey Jane capture the feeling of just wanting to go back home and end the day. Not talk to anyone or seek any encouragement or reassurance. Just a desire to bury your face in your pillow and call it a day.

With the choice to go acoustic, Spacey Jane bring in a rawness and vulnerability that was not present in the original. Harper’s vocals hit even closer to heart, and you immediately remember days where the world was cruel to you. It feels more intimate, up front and personal.

Spacey Jane are currently on tour and you can find tickets on their website. You can follow them on their Facebook and Instagram. You can listen to their music on Spotify and YouTube
