Sofi Tukker, the Grammy-nominated dance music duo known for their catchy vocal based dance music sound, has once again captivated fans with the release of their latest singles, “Spiral” and “Throw Some Ass.” This duo consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern continue to push the boundaries of the dance music, taking roots and influences from various genres to create a unique and energetic sound.
These tracks are the lead singles for their new album, BREAD, is set to be released on August 23rd. You can pre-order the album, available in vinyl, CD, and cassette formats, here. The acronym BREAD, which stands for “Be Really Energetic and Dance,” captures the essence of the album, inviting it’s listeners to step into the world of Sofi Tukker and immerse themselves in dance music.

“Spiral,” the first of the two new tracks, is a mesmerizing synth-electro pop journey filled with pulsating rhythms and hypnotic melodies. From the get go, the electric guitar melody brings yet another unique element to a Sofi Tukker track. The way the guitar melody glides smoothly into the pre chorus and fades out to allow Sophie’s vocals to shine is beautiful. The rest of the song is filled with a blend of house, electronic, and dance pop, ultimately creating a sing-a-long tune that makes you want to get up out of your seat and dance right away. This song is an instant club anthem, perfect for late-night dance floors and festivals alike.
The accompanying music video for “Spiral” also features supermodel Heidi Klum. Check it out in the embed below.
In contrast, “Throw Some Ass” is a high-energy, drum-heavy banger designed to get listeners moving. Featuring a collaboration with Brazilian artist MC Zaac, the track is a fusion of Sofi Tukker’s electronic prowess and the infectious rhythms of Brazilian funk. The song’s playful lyrics and infectious hooks make it an instant party starter. This song is purely designed to get listeners moving and grooving, and aims to free both mind and body through its rhythm and motion.
The lyrics draw inspiration from Sophie’s quest to find relief for her chronic back pain. After trying numerous doctors and treatments, she found relief when her Brazilian choreographer encouraged her to “joga bunda,” or in so many words, “Throw Some Ass”. She explained further in a quote when asked about the track.
“The more I studied chronic pain the more I learned. When the brain is anticipating pain, it creates more pain. Eventually my neural pathway of pain got so strong that, even when there was no structural reason for it, I became chronically in pain. The inverse was true too. When I told my body that it’s safe and free, I was able to re-write the neural pathway. I was so mentally happy and free in the moments of throwing ass that my brain re-wired itself.”

As far as the music itself is concerned, it is easy to hear the Brazilian influence on this one. The drum pattern is one that anyone who is into Brazilian influenced music is familiar with, making this another very danceable hit. There is a music video for this single as well, and as one can expect, it features a healthy amount of dancing and booty shaking.
The release of these two singles comes as Sofi Tukker continues to build on their impressive discography, which includes hits like “Best Friend” and “Drinkee.” Known for their vibrant live performances and innovative approach to music, the duo continues to build on their already established global following and critical acclaim.
