Royel Otis have released their sophomore album “hickey” on August 22nd of this year. The album features 13 different songs all featuring different angsty emotions. Following Royel Otis’ album release is their tour “meet me in the car” with stops ranging within multiple countries.
To kick off the release of their second album “hickey”, the duo released the single “car” on June 25th and described by BBC Radio as the “Hottest Record” track. The single “car” is co-written by Royel Otis with hit writers and producers Blake Slatkin and Omer Fedi.

Within the cover art released for the song, Royel Otis describes and promoted the single “car” as,
This is a song about goodbyes
Which does a perfect job in wrapping the emotions of the song into a quick description. The music video released with the single follows the indie rock duo through the city of New York as they move in one direction. Almost as if they are leaving the past behind as they sing the powerful lyrics to the camera.
The music video ends with the duo looking ahead and not turning back to face the camera. Paired with the song, it can signify the start of a new chapter. After all, the single is about saying goodbye to someone even though you don’t want the relationship to end.
Ultimately both parties know it’s the best option in order to proceed with their lives. This particular feeling is shown directly within the songs lyrics.
Yeah, I’ll meet you in the car on the corner
But you never gonna change my mind
You know I want to stay, but you gotta
Leave it ’cause it don’t feel right, this time, all right-Royel Otis
“car” was beautifully curated in order to recognize and share the familiar situation’s emotion. This follows all the songs on the album “hickey” and makes it a great listen.
