Regina Spektor, a multifaceted anti-folk indie-pop artist, has announced the upcoming release of her new album, Songs. Set to be released on Nov. 29, 2024, the 12-track collection can be dated back to 2002, a time period that saw the best of Spektor’s songwriting. With the help of a friend, the dozens of early-2000 songs were archived for a later time. Now, the 44-year-old Russian-born musician will formally release the compilation in full, performing the album live in New York’s Warsaw venue on Dec. 10, 2024. For ticket information, look here.
It’s hard to believe that after 22 years of living their scrappy DIY life, these little songs get to be reborn. I used to burn a few CDRs and head downtown hoping someone would buy them from my backpack. Now beautifully mastered by Bob Ludwig, and available to stream or on limited edition vinyl, hopefully all the people who listened all these years can enjoy them in a new way.” – Regina Spektor
“Samson”
Further, Spektor shares the original version of “Samson,” one of her most popular songs to date. The track is undeniably beautiful, with Spektor’s shining vocal range soaring above an emotional piano composition. “You are my sweetest downfall / I loved you first, I loved you first,” she sings, alluding to the Biblical story of “Samson.”
