Queer Artist Conor James Unveils a Surreal “Oasis”

Conor James brings a dreamy, techno soundscape with deep meaning in his newest single, “Oasis.” The experimental, counter-pop track infuses many sources of inspiration, from personal experiences to societal observations. The Los Angeles-based artist, 25, said “Oasis” celebrates the human spirit, challenges societal and sexual conventions, and captures time and space.

I take ownership of my position in music as a queer man telling actual queer stories.

James was inspired by the “haunted lore” of his hometown, entering a mystic realm and exploring the human — and even paranormal — experience. “Oasis” also serves as a metaphor for the environmental devastation that comes from capitalism, James said.

The musician brings an aggressive edge matched with angelic vocal quality. Add in profound lyrics, and James creates a musical haven for listeners.

You’re drying up my last oasis
I’ve seen you in a thousand places
I don’t think I’ll ever escape it

~ “Oasis”

With the addition of “Oasis,” it’s clear James’ newest project, The Bridgewater Triangle, is well underway. Conor James is a name to look for, as the rising artist builds upon his discography, like 2022 album Cabaret and a slew of singles from 2023 and earlier.

Making reality shine brighter for myself has been a huge part of making this record.

~ Conor James

Stay tuned for more, and explore his work on Spotify in the meantime.
