QRTR Discusses Living Out Her 2022 Dreams Alongside New EP Release
Brooklyn-based QRTR is one of electronic music’s brightest upcoming voices, fusing air-tight dance hooks with dreamy downtempo textures. With a sound that cannot be placed in a specific genre, QRTR leans into her extensive years working in the film world, adding tonality and design to her works that are rare in dance music. Bouncing between high-energy DJ mixes and hypnotic original live sets, she has shared the stage with the likes of Tokimonsta, Daedelus, Booka Shade, and Tiga, to name a few. While her Brooklyn home base will always be número um, QRTR has toured internationally, performing in Portuguese open-air clubs and smoky Parisian lounges.

While we may only be a few months into 2022, QRTR is taking the year head-on and living out exactly what she had hoped the year would look like. In just the past month, she has played at Dirty Bird Camp INN, supported the FEMME HOUSE tour, played several parties at her debut Miami Music Week, interviewed with Mixmag, and released an EP, titled Snowfall, on Walker & Royce‘s Rules Don’t Apply.
Her original is a melancholy take, yet still packs vibrant energy in the fast-paced house genre. An ambient intro creates a wide-open soundscape before charging forward with processed vocal chops and crisp percussion, creating an atmosphere in which it feels as though snowflakes are drifting before you. Written with yearning in mind, the groovy rhythm is meant for soul-searching on the dance floor. Accompanying QRTR’s original is Justin Martin‘s melodically-driven remix, Maude Vos‘s synthesizer-packed remix, and Slug Father‘s R&B-forward remix. You can listen to the entirety of Snowfall below.
In the midst of everything, and especially five MMW shows, QRTR still managed to find time for an interview with us, which we’re greatly appreciative of! During our conversation, we discuss the whirlwind of a month she’s had and how excited she is for what is still to come, the importance of representation, and how she uses her platform to uplift those around her. Of course, we speak a lot about her vast love of music. From DJing and producing, and trying to more closely intersect the two, to film scoring, QRTR is surrounded by music and could not be happier about it. You can check out our interview below, and make sure to keep a pulse on her not only because she brings something exciting to the table but also because she lives her values.
