The 2x GRAMMY-nominated, multitalented artist Poppy announced her highly anticipated seventh studio album Empty Hands. With a release date set for January 23, 2026 it is just around the corner. Alongside the announcement, she gives us a taste of what’s to come with her latest single “Bruised Sky.
2025 was nothing short of phenomenal for Poppy. “Suffocate,” in collaboration with Knocked Loose, earned them a nomination for Best Metal Performance at the 2025 GRAMMY Awards. In 2021 she made waves, becoming the first-ever female solo nominee in the category for her solo track “BLOODMONEY.” Moreover, Poppy continues to prove that her art exceeds genres and media, expressing herself as a video director, sci-fi graphic novel author, globe-traveling recording artist, mastering brutal metal breakdowns and snappy ‘60s bubblegum, as well as trap-pop and grunge-punk.
Moreover, with her upcoming, seventh studio album Empty Hands, Poppy continues to build her identity as a genre defying visionary. It combines electric touches with industrial influences and pop sensibilities. Furthermore, we can look forward to elements that are reminiscent of Poppy’s surrealist origin with her uncanny, mechanical voice.
“Bruised Sky” dives deep into Poppy’s heaviest soundscapes, bringing us striking and commanding vocals, expertly jumping between melodic segments and death growls. Carried by Poppy’s powerful, building vocals, the song is backed by intense guitars, resulting in what can only be described as a ferocious conversation of the best kind between the two. While the song was produced and co-written by long time collaborator Jordan Fish, the stunning music video shows the band in a dark and dystopian setting, adding to the song’s already intense atmosphere.
