Catie Turner has released her new single “Hometown” alongside its nostalgic music video. The track is a powerful, pop reflection on where Turner grew up, painting a picture of the insecurities that come with the place and the time spent there. “Hometown” is off of Turner’s project Comedy & Tragedy: Act 1.
The music video begins with “Part 2” on a heavy drum beat, commanding attention to the fact that an important story is about to continue. Turner and peers take turns at the piano and work together in acting exercises, but these are cut with shots of Catie at the piano entirely alone. As the lyrics spiral in speed and depth, she performs in front of a judgemental crowd and acts as the centerpiece of their exercises. When the chorus drops, a magical moment in vocals and instrumentals, the others join in, allowing the track to fly. Catie Turner blows them a kiss, and they shift from resentful to open-minded, participating with enthusiasm. With a megaphone, Turner belts a powerful finale, where everyone comes together and Turner is allowed the last word on her backstory.
“‘Hometown’ is about when you feel unsafe and unfamiliar in what is supposed to be the most familiar place in the world, all because of a failed relationship. The fear of them seeing you, and you seeing them, so you hide out in your bedroom. This goes out to everyone who has worn their hood up on an outing to WaWa or refused to go to Trader Joe’s because they didn’t want to run into their ex’s mom!”

Comedy & Tragedy: Act 1 also includes Turner’s deep-cutting, breakout hit single “God Must Hate Me,” which launched Turner into worldwide viral status in 2021. The album is one of a two-part series set to be released throughout 2023. Each record showcases Turner’s gift for intensely personal songwriting and stunning vocal versatility. She works theatrically, uniquely, taking it even further with Comedy & Tragedy: The Musical: The Series.
