Passport Rav Spits Societal Commentary in “Idiot World”

Brooklyn-based hip-hop artist and producer, Passport Rav, has been working the tri-state area for a few years now. He sold out SOBs with Dave East and has also collaborated with the legendary Black Thought, both rapping on the song “Achievements” and also producing the record. Passport Rav loves dope sample loops, conscious ratchetness, and animation. Influenced by artists like Kanye West, Nas, and Roc Marciano, he infuses his personal experiences into his songs, purposely using his platform to communicate parts of his soul to his listeners. He’s hoping to make a worldwide statement with his talent.

His newest project is a collaborative album, titled “Travel Ban,” that is in the works with producer, Lex with the Records. “Idiot World” is the first single released off this upcoming album and it contains a viciously undeterred framing of today’s society.

In a style reminiscent of conscious old-school hip-hop, Passport Rav spends no time making his feelings known. The stripped-down guitar pulsating on the otherwise percussive backing track delivers a very lo-fi feel, turning all attention to the lyrical performance. Even with the track being as short as it is, Passport Rav manages to touch on a good number of societal happenings – masks, hookup culture, modern-day rap culture, chemtrails, and what people find belief in…just to name a few. Taking measured breaths, he delivers ongoing bars that flow into the instrumental in a perceptive tone. It’s a smartly-executed quick take on society that has listeners nodding to both the flow and message.
