ON PLANETS’ NEW SINGLE “TO LEAVE AND COME BACK” IS OUT OF THIS WORLD

On Planets is finally back with new music and we couldn’t be more stoked! After five long years in the making, the Canadian musical multi-talent has just released his most personal album to date. His second EP is inspired by Sean Wharton’s life experiences of solitude, displacement, and struggles with intimacy. To Leave and Come Back perfectly captures that uncanny feeling of “sonder”; that sudden realization that your life is just a part of a big complex world where everyone around you lives vivid lives of their own. It makes you feel vulnerable and yet you are not alone with your emotions.

“These songs span the course of many relationships, homes, jobs; in some ways, each song was almost written by an entirely different person than the last. However, each is an integral part of the story, and comes together to form an abstract yet (hopefully) poignant picture of me, in my world.”

On Planets

A true masterpiece of empathy that feels like the comfort of a hug delivered by On Planets’ soothing vocals. Break out your tissues and get ready to feel all the feels!

True to his unique off-beat brand of the bittersweet electronic-tinged alt-pop genre, the six tracks that make up the To Leave and Come Back album are just as complex and nuanced. Each song builds off each other like chapters in a book that only unfurl their full meaning once listened to as a whole. It’s supposed to remind us of the paradoxical reality of waiting on a “right” moment to arrive and missing out on life in the process. The lyrics are filled with sublime messages and pure poetry that read like a Rupi Kaur book.

This one’s for all my fellow overthinkers and second-guessers. This is our anthem for those dark lonely nights when our minds wander, and we find ourselves second-guessing past mistakes. On Planets is here to tell you that we’ve “had enough half string second guess love”. We deserve better and no matter how much it hurts now, nothing “ever lasts that long”.

“For a few years I sought resolution or some kind of clarity, but in the end, I found that the notion of “arrival” is fleeting and impossible—to arrive anywhere is to have departed somewhere else, and to depart is to have previously arrived. And as the ends of one life bleed indistinguishably into the beginnings of the next, time lurches heedlessly forward.”

On Planets

Slow and sweet, “Satellite” fills your heart with a weightless tune that lifts your spirits to the moon. Sean Wharton sings about the joys of young blossoming love and the longing for intimacy with your crush. This song is the dopamine boost that will get you out of your mid-day slump.

The theme of vulnerability and sensibility can be found throughout On Planets’ music overall. Exploring different sounds, subjects, and genres over the years, On Planets’ work, is always connected through the use of organic instruments, cathartic poetry, and a constant sense of change. He began his musical journey with a more electronic-leaning sound alongside his debut EP Personal Space, but moved into the more indie sphere with bitbird releases such as “Don’t Think So Hard” and “So Long”. On Planets bears his soul for us and creates music that nourishes our souls. A man who is on a journey of exploring the depths of his personality and sharing his discoveries with the world.

We are excited to hear more from him soon and in the meantime, excuse me but I’m going to clock out to listen to this EP on repeat. Let me know which song you relate most to in the comments below or on our socials!
