OMEGA X had a difficult year, to say the least, but the group’s 11 members pushed through and accomplished a lot, including completing an eight-date North American tour. During the “KEEP GOIN’” tour, the K-pop group reunited with their fans—known as FOR X—in cities across the U.S. and in Mexico, including San Jose, California, where we joined the members during their Dec. 8 show at Hammer Theatre.

In the days leading up to the show, we were disappointed by the mid-tour announcement that Hyuk would not be able to attend the Mexico City and San Jose concerts due to a personal scheduling conflict. Luckily, he was able to rejoin the tour in San Jose, where he performed alongside fellow members Jaehan, Hwichan, Sebin, Hangyeom, Taedong, Xen, Jehyun, Kevin, Junghoon and Yechan.

As the house lights dimmed, hundreds of OMEGA X lightsticks glowed green and the group took the stage against a backdrop of fiery visuals. The members looked edgy in their black leather outfits, which were adorned with silver belts, buckles and chains that glinted under the stage lights. After opening with explosive back-to-back performances of “LOUDER” and “ICETAG,” the members took a moment to introduce themselves and share some thoughts about being on tour.

“All 11 of us on stage helps us shine brighter together,” they shared.

As the night went on, OMEGA X captivated FOR X with performances of trendy hip-hop tracks like “JUNK FOOD,” heartfelt ballads like “Dream,” and other songs from many genres in between. The setlist highlighted the group’s diverse discography while showcasing the members’ powerful vocal arrangements and dynamic choreography, which impressed me to the point that I said “wow” under my breath at least three times during every song. I was absolutely amazed by the fluidity of their formations and the preciseness of their movements; the members covered the stage in its entirety and made use of every inch to create visually intriguing performances that pumped up both the group and the audience. Equally impressive were the vocal arrangements, which featured a spectacular display of strong leads, smooth raps and rich backing vocals.

Between sets, the OMEGA X members took several moments to interact with FOR X in fun and engaging ways. They played a quiz game where they asked FOR X member-specific questions; celebrated an early Christmas with FOR X by singing a snippet of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” while wearing Santa hats and reindeer antlers; and got FOR X to participate in the “Touch Challenge,” which turned Hammer Theatre into a green ocean as everyone waved their lightsticks every time the members sang the word “touch” during their song “Touch.”

By the end of the concert, it was abundantly clear why the tour was named “KEEP GOIN'”: because OMEGA X will keep goin’. The group is one of the most resilient and hardworking I’ve seen and their tour served as a testament to the members’ commitment to their careers, to their fans and to each other. With the love and support of FOR X, the members overcame what many thought they wouldn’t and have continued to pursue their dreams together. OMEGA X is truly a special group and we can’t wait to see what they do in the future!
